Sometimes it means more to be the first follower than being the leader. As you can see from the video embedded in this post, the first follower is what causes a movement. In advertising, everyone strives to be the leader of a new movement…a new campaign…a new creative or innovative idea. However, sometimes all it takes to start a movement is to be the courageous first follower of something new and risky. It’s hard sometimes to convince your clients, your boss, or even yourself to try something new. Follow your gut and stick with it. The video appropriately states that “we’re told we all need to be leaders, but that would be really ineffective.” I’m not saying don’t be a leader, but sometimes it takes the same amount of courage to be the first follower.
