Why should companies care about Google+?
Posted by Erik Rivas
According to Wired.com “Google didn’t need to launch a social network to win skirmishes with Twitter, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Quora or the rest; it needed a social platform to defend itself against a unified Microsoft and Facebook.” It’s almost like Facebook, except you get the benefits of multi-person video chatting called Hangouts, the option to include or exclude people from your Circles, and the ability to start Huddles to chat with a group of your friends at once.
What does Google+ mean for businesses?
In recent years, businesses have come to realize the importance of having a social media presence. Now, companies are scrambling to figure out how Google+ is going to impact their social media strategy. Not to worry, Google is coming out with a Google+ for businesses “later on this year” according to a video posted by Google’s product manager, Christian Oestlien. PCworld.com reported that “The search giant’s two-week-old social network, currently in a limited field test, reportedly grew by 350 percent between July 4 and July 10 from 1.7 million users to 7.3 million.” At this rate, they are said to reach 20 million by (July 16).” There is no doubt that businesses should be prepared to implement Google+ as part of their social media strategy.
What does Google+ mean for recruiting?
Recruiter.com released an article highlighting the impact and possibilities Google+ has on recruiters. “It’s got a good couple of recruiting tools hidden in it that allows Recruiters to do their job just a little better. Circles let’s you organize your contacts (however you choose) and share certain information with only certain Circles. It’s like keeping hot books in Facebook. It creates a much needed buffer between your personal life and your professional one and even let’s you coordinate with your clients in a group setting.” Also, with recruiting apps already available for Google+, like FindPeopleonPLus.com, we should expect this social media giant to play a larger role in recruiting down the line.
